The Invisible Shield.

In purchasing a new camera (upgraded from a point and shoot to a DSLR) I have found some things to be true.
1. I enjoy taking pictures. I knew I would. THIS is the whole reason I had not dipped a toe into photography. It’s overwhelming and massive and resource (time & money) sapping and amazing and introspective and there is no way in the world I have even an iota of the time I need to jump in - respectably.
2. I find myself procrastinating with the camera. Yes, right now I have a few site designs on my to do list, 3 logos, 2 brochures and a filthy house - but all I would like to do right now is walk around outside with my camera.
3. The camera gives me the power to be invisible. This, for me, is a hard thing to accept - but I love it. I’m always the ham, the first one in the room to tell a joke, the person who will talk to total and utter strangers…but, when I am behind the camera, I don’t have to say anything (besides to ask for permission) - I am allowed to just shoot. I am allowed to be invisible…to roam around the room taking photos. I am allowed to squat on the floor to get a better view, or lay in the grass to be at ground level. I can sit in the isle of a wedding - on the floor - as long as I have the camera. It’s like being able to see the world through kid eyes again.
It’s been a fun introduction to another way to see the world. I hope it continues.

The Post Office here in Warren - down the street. I pulled in to mail a package and the lines of the power lines, the building and the Midwestern-style mower pattern in the grass stuck me. 9/27/2010
