You Are Not Your Past
As you stand here today you’ve experienced a lot
You’ve learned some about how this world works
But there’s more to the story than you may have thought
You, the world, and life—there are plenty of quirks
Past experience has molded your current view
The past has led you here, where you stand today
The thing is the past does not define you
It’s you that has final say
We’ve held a variety of roles in many different communities
Perhaps you’ve made “mistakes,” made an error or two
But these were merely your learning opportunities
Again, I stress, your past does not define you
The light you shine makes all the difference
With the right mindset you truly glow
Yes, you might have likes and your own preference
But it is perception that sets the tone of how your life with go
You create your reality now and every second
You can recreate your story any time you choose
The power of your mind and soul will beckon
Your past does not define you—what do you have to lose?
